Trans*Thriving: Mind, Body and Spirit

Trade has been awarded £267,520 funding over the next three years from the National Lottery Community Fund for a groundbreaking project to promote Trans* Thriving across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. Get involved and help your community thrive.

More about the project

With increasing challenges to the rights and safety of trans* communities, the Trans* Thriving project comes at a critical time.

The project is designed to create safe, inclusive spaces for trans* people, offering opportunities for fitness, social support, and personal growth in ways that foster belonging and well-being. The launch of this initiative aligns with the values of IDAHOBIT, which seeks to eliminate discrimination and promote equality for the LGBTQ+ community.

The project will focus on strengthening connections within the local trans* community by providing resources to help create new social events and groups. This includes expanding Trade Sexual Health’s team of trained trans* volunteers who will lead the creation of safe spaces for social, fitness, and healthcare support.

Over the next year, we will be conducting an extensive listening campaign with trans* people locally to map community knowledge of safe and inclusive spaces where you can stay fit, healthy and feel good about yourself. We also want to identify and enable new opportunities for the community to thrive. We will be organizing a series of taster events so you can safely try out new fitness and wellbeing activities in a safe environment.

There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in Trans* Thriving. We will be recruiting a team of volunteers and providing training in community organizing. In the second and third year of the project, we have funding to enable community members to start five new, trans-led, social, leisure, and support groups across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.

Members of the Trade team hold up a large cheque with the funding they received for Trans*Thriving project equalling £267,520
